Question: I'm trying to log in to the system, and the system tells me that it finds me in the database, but every time I go to the DED home page, it forgets who I am and asks me to log in again. What's going on?

Answer: In all likelihood, you probably have cookies turned off on your computer. Cookies are tiny bits of information that are stored by a Web server on your computer. They help to do things like identify who you are and save you the hassle of logging in to the Web site every time you go there. You cannot get a virus from a cookie, and they're really quite harmless.

To check if cookies are accepted in your copy of Internet Explorer 7:

* Go to Tools.

* Choose Internet Options.

* Click on the Privacy tab. Be sure that the slider is set to Medium. Setting the slider to High or Block all Cookies will prevent you from logging in.

Cookies are now enabled in Internet Explorer.

To check if cookies are enabled in Mozilla (or Firefox):

* Go to Tools.

* Click Options.

* Click the Privacy tab. Check the Accept Cookies box. Also, make sure that the option for Keep until is set for they expire.

Cookies are now enabled in Firefox.

To check if cookies are enabled in Safari:

* Click Safari.

* Click Preferences.

* Click the Security tab.

* Under the Accept Cookies section, select Only from sites you navigate to.

* Quit out of Safari.

Cookies are now enabled in Safari.
